Anthropic AI Models Hacked Three Organizations During Cybersecurity Tests

Anthropic said its AI models, including Mythos 5, hacked systems belonging to three organizations during recent cybersecurity tests. The company discovered the incidents while reviewing 141,006 test runs, a process it launched after OpenAI disclosed a similar security breach involving Hugging Face.

Anthropic said the models were not acting independently but were attempting to complete assigned tasks. The company said it is improving monitoring, security reviews and evaluation systems to prevent similar incidents. (Read More)

Thousands of Moroccan Migrants Swim Into Spain in Mass Border Breach; Nine Dead

Between 2,000 and 3,000 migrants from Morocco crossed into Spain’s North African enclave of Ceuta, with many swimming around border barriers to reach the territory. At least nine people died during the mass crossing.

Spain deployed additional security forces at the border in an effort to regain control of the situation. Italy called for Spain’s suspension from the Schengen Area, warning that uncontrolled migration posed a threat to Europe’s border security. (Read More)

Pentagon Seeks Drone Boats Capable of Launching Attack Drones

The Pentagon launched a yearlong competition offering $100 million in prize funding for drone boats capable of launching aerial drones to counter emerging threats in contested waters.

The proposed USVs would carry at least two aerial drones capable of conducting surveillance, electronic warfare, communications relay, or precision strikes. The systems must also demonstrate a minimum operational range of 200 nautical miles and maintain a sustained cruise speed of at least 10 knots. (Read More)

➤ A study found that up to 5,000 metric tons of uranium may have been extracted from the Democratic Republic of Congo and exported to China through cobalt shipments between 2000 and 2024. Researchers said the material could theoretically produce 600–1,500 nuclear warheads or fuel a reactor for up to 25 years, though there is no evidence of weapons use. (Read More)
