Ukraine Launches Drone Barrage on Russia, Strikes Fourth Ship in a Month

Ukraine on Sunday launched one of its largest drone assaults on Russia since the start of the war, killing at least four people and injuring about a dozen others.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said that air defenses intercepted and destroyed more than 550 drones over a nine-hour period ending early Sunday. Separately, Ukrainian drone forces struck an FSB patrol boat in the Caspian Sea nearly 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) from the front line. (Read More)


AI Chatbots Doxxed Users by Giving Out Real Phone Numbers

AI chatbots are exposing real people’s phone numbers to strangers, prompting fresh concerns about privacy safeguards in generative AI systems.

One case involved a Reddit user who said Google’s AI repeatedly provided his personal number to people searching for businesses and services. An MIT Technology Review report detailed similar incidents. In March, a developer in Israel was contacted via WhatsApp after Gemini included his number in customer service instructions. (Read More)


Joint U.S.-Nigerian Operation Killed ISIS Second-in-Command in Lake Chad Basin

A joint U.S.-Nigerian military operation killed Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, the global second-in-command of ISIS, during a precision air-land strike on his compound in the Lake Chad Basin early Saturday, President Donald Trump and Nigerian President Tinubu announced.

Al-Minuki served as the senior ISIS General Directorate of Provinces emir, overseeing attack planning, hostage operations, and financial networks. Several of his lieutenants were also killed in the joint operation. (Read More)

The Department of Justice subpoenaed Apple and Google to identify more than 100,000 users who downloaded the EZ Lynk Auto Agent app. The investigation stems from a 2021 lawsuit alleging EZ Lynk sold devices that allowed users to bypass vehicle emissions controls, potentially violating federal air quality laws. A 31-year-old driver deliberately rammed pedestrians on a busy street in Modena, Italy, injuring eight people. The driver allegedly tried to flee the scene but was subdued by passers-by. Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi said the incident appears to be related to “a situation of psychiatric distress.” (Read More)

After being fired by Opexus, a U.S. software company that provides case management systems for government agencies, twin brothers Muneeb and Sohaib Akhter deleted 96 U.S. government databases within an hour. An SR-71 Blackbird pilot recalled a Cold War reconnaissance flight near Vladivostok in which a Soviet MiG-25 fired a missile at his aircraft. Col. Darrel Cobb said the SR-71’s electronic countermeasures disrupted the missile’s tracking, causing it to lose lock on the aircraft. Cobb said it remains unclear what happened to the missile afterward, but he believes the Blackbird’s extreme speed likely allowed it to outrun the threat.

➤ Researchers in Ireland have uncovered what is believed to be the oldest surviving English poem, found in a medieval book housed in a Roman library. Caedmon’s Hymn, composed in Old English by a 7th-century Northumbrian farm worker, appears in some copies of Ecclesiastical History of the English People, written in Latin by the Venerable Bede.


On this day in history: On May 18th, 1944, Polish II Corps raised their flag over the ruins of Monte Cassino after Allied forces captured the monastery following four assaults over five months. The battle broke the Gustav Line and opened the road to Rome.
