Ukraine Hits Caspian Oil Platform in Mass Drone Attack

Ukraine struck the Lukoil-operated Filanovsky oil rig, one of Russia’s largest offshore assets in the Caspian Sea. The attack, reportedly carried out with long-range Ukrainian-made Lyutiy drones, ignited fires that burned into Thursday and forced a shutdown of production.

The platform holds an estimated 129 million tons of oil and 30 billion cubic meters of gas, typically exported through the Caspian Pipeline Consortium.

The unprecedented strike marked Ukraine’s first attack in the Caspian region and came alongside a massive overnight assault involving nearly 300 drones and cruise missiles across Russia. (Read More)

U.S. Deploys EA-18G Growlers to Puerto Rico Amid Venezuela

The U.S. Navy forward-deployed multiple EA-18G Growler electronic warfare jets to the reactivated Roosevelt Roads base in Ceiba, Puerto Rico, amid rising tensions with Venezuela.

Photographs show at least six Growlers at the base, some equipped with the new AN/ALQ-249(V)1 Next Generation Jammer-Mid Band pods, while others carry older AN/ALQ-99 pods. The base now hosts the largest U.S. naval and air presence in the Caribbean since the 1989 Panama invasion.

The deployment follows Washington’s seizure of a sanctioned Venezuelan oil tanker off the country’s coast. (Read More)

U.S. Prepares to Seize More Tankers Off Venezuela Coast

The U.S. is set to continue seizing oil tankers off Venezuela, targeting vessels in the shadow fleet that transport oil to China. According to Reuters, the Justice Department and Department of Homeland Security have been planning these operations for months.

On Thursday, the U.S. Treasury imposed sanctions on six supertankers, though it is unclear if these vessels are among the next targets.

The announcement follows the U.S. seizure earlier this week of a Venezuelan tanker carrying 1.1 million barrels of sanctioned crude linked to illicit networks supporting foreign terrorist organizations. Venezuela condemned the move as a blatant robbery of the country’s oil. (Read More)
