South African Father-Son Duo Reclaim Fastest Drone Record at 408 MPH

Luke Bell and his father Mike reclaimed the Guinness World Record for fastest quadcopter drone on December 11, 2025, flying their 3D-printed Peregrine V4 to an average speed of 408 mph in Cape Town.

The record dethroned Australian aerospace engineer Ben Biggs, who set the previous mark at 389 mph just weeks earlier. The Bells built the Peregrine V4 using a desktop 3D printer, off-the-shelf motors, and open-source simulation software. Bell said he expects competitors to break the record soon. The title has changed hands five times since April 2024. (Read More)

Russian Drone Strikes F-16 Decoy at Ukrainian Airfield

A Russian BM-35 drone operated by the Rubicon unit struck what Moscow initially claimed was a Ukrainian F-16 at Kanatove airfield on January 26. Both open-source analysts and Rubicon itself confirmed the target was a mock-up, not an operational aircraft.

Analysts identified discrepancies including incorrectly shaped air intakes and unnaturally drooping wings, though the decoy's quality spurred debate over whether it was an unflyable surplus airframe or purpose-built replica. Ukraine maintains numerous decoys to absorb strikes and protect its growing operational F-16 fleet. (Read More)
