Dallas Puts AI Cameras on Garbage Trucks to Monitor Homes for Code Violations

Dallas has equipped garbage trucks with AI-powered cameras that photograph properties and identify potential code violations, including overgrown grass, litter, illegal dumping, graffiti, debris and signs of deterioration.

The program has raised privacy concerns among residents, some of whom object to AI monitoring their homes. Since testing began in April, the cameras have photographed over 21,000 properties and prompted about 1,800 courtesy notices. (Read More)

Iran Claims Capture of High-Tech U.S. Underwater Drone in Strait of Hormuz

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said Tuesday it captured an advanced U.S. underwater drone in the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. military acknowledged that an underwater drone surveying regional waters malfunctioned in the area more than a day earlier but said it was an older model.

Photos released by Iran appeared to show the vessel as the Dive-LD, a three-ton autonomous underwater vehicle made by Anduril Industries. The drone can operate for about 10 days and dive to depths of up to 6,000 meters. (Read More)

U.S. Strikes Five Iranian Tankers; Iran Targets U.S. Base in Jordan

The U.S. military said it destroyed five Iranian crude oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman and Persian Gulf on Tuesday after Iran twice attempted to strike a U.S. Navy warship with ballistic missiles.

Iran responded by launching 20 ballistic missiles at an air base in Jordan used by U.S. forces. Jordanian air defenses intercepted 18, while the other two landed in unpopulated areas. Iran also claimed it struck two U.S. Navy destroyers, the USS Paul Ignatius and USS John Paul Jones, but the claims have not been independently verified. (Read More)

➤ Scammers are sending fake MyChart emails offering a “free Medicare Kit” to steal victims’ money and personal information. The emails often direct recipients to complete a short survey before asking them to pay a small shipping fee for the supposed kit. The Federal Trade Commission received 166 complaints about MyChart scams over five years. (Read More)

➤ Chinese tech giant Huawei is facing a criminal trial in New York over allegations that it stole U.S. trade secrets, committed wire and bank fraud, and violated U.S. sanctions by doing business with North Korea and Iran. Huawei denies the allegations and says the U.S. case is “demonstrably false.” (Read More)
