Families Sue OpenAI for $1B Over Tumbler Ridge School Shooting

Seven families of victims in the Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, school shooting have filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and CEO Sam Altman over the company’s alleged failure to alert law enforcement about the gunman’s threatening activity on ChatGPT, even after the system flagged the shooter’s account for “gun violence activity and planning” months before the attack.

The February shooting killed eight people, including six children. Altman apologized last week for not notifying authorities. (Read More)


Navy Eyes Japanese and Korean Shipyards for Future Warships

The Pentagon is considering foreign partners for warship design and construction to offset U.S. shipbuilding constraints that have limited Navy surface fleet capacity.

The fiscal 2027 budget proposal includes $1.85 billion in research and development funding to study frigate programs built abroad. Officials are expected to review Japanese and South Korean shipyards, along with frigate designs currently in service in those countries, including Japan’s Mogami-class and South Korea’s Daegu-class. Trump Keeps Naval Blockade on Iran, Weighs Possible Strikes if Nuclear Talks Fail

President Donald Trump said the U.S. will maintain its naval blockade on Iran until a nuclear deal is reached, calling it more effective than military strikes.

CENTCOM said 42 vessels have been turned back since April 13, with 41 tankers holding 69 million barrels of unsold oil worth over $6 billion. Trump also weighs possible military action if Tehran refuses negotiations, according to Axios sources. (Read More)

The U.S. Air Force plans to acquire nearly 27,000 low-cost cruise missiles under its Family of Affordable Mass Missile (FAMM) program. In FY27, it is requesting $300 million in reconciliation funding to purchase 1,000 missiles. Procurement is expected to rise to 5,300 in FY28 and continue increasing until reaching 7,990 in FY31.
