UAE Exits OPEC After 60 Years, Reducing the Group's Global Oil Control

The United Arab Emirates announced that it will exit the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and OPEC+ on May 1, citing a long-term strategy aimed at maximizing revenue and responding more quickly to rising global demand.

Analysts say the move will further weaken the cartel’s influence over global oil supply and prices. The International Energy Agency said OPEC+’s share of global oil output fell to 44% in March from about 48% in February, with further declines expected in April as production cuts intensify and again in May following the UAE’s exit. Mexican Navy special forces captured top Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) commander Audias Flores Silva, known as “El Jardinero,” in the western state of Nayarit after months of surveillance.

The operation involved more than 500 troops, along with aerial assets and intelligence shared by U.S. authorities. Officials said no shots were fired and no casualties were reported. (Read More)


Supreme Court Weighs Whether Police Can Sweep Phone Location Data With Geofence Warrants

The Supreme Court on Monday struggled to find consensus over how far police can go in using cell phone location data to identify suspects and witnesses.

The dispute centers on so-called “geofence search warrants,” which require companies like Google to scan their location databases and identify devices that were present within a defined area. Justices are divided, with Chief Justice John Roberts warning the approach could enable broader, GPS-level surveillance. A ruling is expected by June. (Read More)
