U.S. Department of War Approves Qatari Air Force Facility Construction in Idaho

The U.S. Department of War has approved construction of a Qatar Emiri Air Force facility at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho. Secretary Pete Hegseth announced the agreement during a ceremony honoring Qatar's role mediating the Gaza ceasefire, stating the facility will host Qatari F-15QA fighters and pilots.

The arrangement allows up to 1,000 Qatari nationals, including families, to relocate to Mountain Home. Qatar joins select nations with permanent U.S. based forces including Germany, Singapore, and Saudi Arabia, though Riyadh's program faced scrutiny after a 2019 Pensacola shooting by an ISIS aligned Saudi trainee.

Deployment begins early 2026 for five to ten years under USAF oversight. Qatari pilots will train alongside the 366th Fighter Wing focusing on advanced tactics and CENTCOM interoperability. (Read More)

Colombian Nationals Allege Detention and Abuse by Private Military Brokers in Ukraine

Thirty-five Colombian nationals are reportedly being held against their will at a Ukrainian training base after declining to renew their six-month contracts with private military intermediaries. According to reports from Cali Informa, families lost contact on October 3, with relatives claiming passports were confiscated and threats of legal action for "abandoning post."

Colombian President Gustavo Petro publicly condemned the alleged treatment, stating the contractors were being handled as "cannon fodder" and subjected to racial discrimination. Contractors reported to Semana and Caracol Radio that they faced abuse, unpaid wages, and contracts in languages they couldn't understand, with one stating "they have practically kidnapped us."

Colombia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed awareness and requested clarification through its Warsaw embassy. An estimated 300 Colombians have died serving in Ukraine's foreign volunteer brigades since 2022. (Read More)

Putin Admits Russian Air Defense Downed Azerbaijan Airlines Flight

Russian President Vladimir Putin publicly acknowledged that Russian air defense systems shot down Azerbaijan Airlines Flight 8432 on December 25, 2024, killing 38 passengers and crew. The Embraer 190 was struck by shrapnel from a Pantsir-S missile targeting Ukrainian drones near Grozny, according to Azerbaijani government sources.

Azerbaijani President criticized Moscow for attempting to "hush up" the incident and refusing emergency landing access at Russian airports, forcing the crippled aircraft across the Caspian Sea with jammed GPS. The plane crashed near Aktau, Kazakhstan; 29 survived due to pilot actions.

Putin pledged compensation at a Dushanbe summit, marking his first direct admission after months of deflection. Azerbaijan announced plans to pursue international legal action. (Read More)
