M23 Rebels Killed Over 300 Civilians in Eastern Congo, UN Says

The UN says Rwanda-backed M23 rebels killed at least 319 civilians, including 48 women and 19 children, in North Kivu, DRC, between July 9 and 21. Most victims were farmers camping in their fields during planting season, and the UN reports the rebels were aided by Rwanda’s military. Hydraulic Failure Caused 2022 B-2 Crash at Whiteman Air Force Base, Report Finds

An Air Force investigation found that a faulty hydraulic valve caused the 2022 crash of a B-2 Spirit at Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri, destroying the $2 billion “Spirit of Hawaii” and reducing the fleet to 19. The failure kept the left landing gear from locking, sending the bomber skidding over 9,000 feet on its wing before erupting in flames. Both pilots escaped unharmed, but the accident caused more than $300 million in damage. (Read More)


Fort Bliss Soldier Charged With Espionage for Alleged Attempt to Aid Russia

Army Spc. Taylor Adam Lee, 22, of Fort Bliss, has been charged with trying to share classified M1A2 Abrams tank data with someone he believed worked for Russia’s defense ministry. Prosecutors say he provided a secure memory card and a tank component; he remains in custody as the FBI and Army Counterintelligence investigate. (Read More)
