Unauthorized Group Gained Access to Anthropic's Exclusive AI Model

A Discord-based group reportedly gained unauthorized access to Anthropic’s Claude Mythos, a cybersecurity-focused AI tool the company has warned could become a potential hacking tool.

The unauthorized access is said to have begun around April 7, the same day Anthropic announced limited testing of Mythos with select partners, including Apple, Amazon and Google. One member told Bloomberg the group was not using Claude Mythos for malicious activity, but for tasks such as building simple websites. Anthropic is now investigating the incident. (Read More)


Iran Seizes Two Commercial Vessels in Strait of Hormuz

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy said Wednesday it had seized two commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, as tensions continued to escalate in the strategic waterway.

The ships were identified as the Panama-flagged MSC Francesca and the Greek-owned Epaminondas. The IRGC Navy command said the vessels were “escorted to Iran’s coast” after they had “endangered maritime security” by operating without the necessary permits and tampering with navigation systems. Navy to Downselect FA-XX Sixth-Generation Fighter in August

The U.S. Navy will select its next-generation carrier fighter, expected to feature extended range, enhanced stealth, and AI-enabled mission systems, in August, Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Daryl Caudle said.

The service will choose between Boeing and Northrop Grumman for the F/A-XX contract, which is set to replace the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet and EA-18G Growler. Lockheed Martin was previously removed from the competition after submitting a non-compliant bid. (Read More)

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has launched a criminal investigation into OpenAI after chat logs showed the accused Florida State University shooter used ChatGPT to ask about weapons and other details related to the attack that killed two people. Uthmeier said prosecutors would charge a human with murder if they had provided similar guidance. (Read More)

A Florida man working as a ransomware negotiator pleaded guilty to conspiring with the BlackCat/ALPHV ransomware gang to extort U.S. companies he was hired to protect. Angelo Martino, 41, faces up to 20 years in prison. (Read More)

The U.K. National Cyber Security Centre said more than 100 countries now use commercial spyware, up from 80 in 2023, with targets expanding beyond criminals and terror suspects to include critics, journalists, bankers, and wealthy businesspeople. (Read More)

The U.S. Navy plans to send over 30 medium unmanned ships and thousands of small drones to the Indo-Pacific by 2030, Capt. Garrett Miller, who leads Surface Development Group One, said. (Read More)

A South Korean audit found that a 2021 mid-air collision involving two F-15K fighter jets occurred after pilots took photos with their personal phones during a farewell flight. Both aircraft were able to land safely. The Defense Ministry initially ordered the senior pilot to pay about $600,000 in repair costs, but later reduced the amount to about $60,000. (Read More)
