➤ Ukraine has been using drones to evacuate stranded pets from frontline positions, most recently airlifting a cat named Barsik and a dog named Zagybluk about six miles in breathable pouches to safer areas. Animal rights group UAnimals said it has evacuated over 10,000 animals, including lions, camels, horses and other species, since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
➤ Italian photographer Pierpaolo Mittica has documented the Chernobyl exclusion zone 40 years after the 1986 disaster, capturing a landscape that continues to evolve. About 600 workers arrive daily at the site for cleanup efforts expected to continue into the 2060s. While radiation has reduced the human footprint in the exclusion zone, it has also allowed plants and wildlife to gradually reclaim parts of the area.
➤ Costs for AI infrastructure and usage are exceeding employee payroll, according to industry executives and experts. Nvidia's Bryan Catanzaro told Axios that “the cost of compute is far beyond the costs of the employees,” referring to the expense of running AI systems such as GPUs, data centers, and cloud services.
On this day in history: On April 27th, 1865, the steamboat Sultana exploded on the Mississippi River seven miles north of Memphis, killing approximately 1,800 passengers, most of them Union prisoners of war recently freed from Confederate prisons at Andersonville and Cahaba.

Most people are operating with blind spots they don’t even realize they have. Former SEAL Sam Havelock built Wired to Win after seeing brilliant people make misaligned choices simply because they never learned how they’re wired.
In one hour, you get a research-grade assessment revealing your behavioral patterns, motivators, communication tendencies, and the environments where you perform at your best. You’ll walk away with two full reports, a guidebook, and a book of AI prompts that help you apply your insights immediately.
If you want better outcomes, start with better self-data. Wired to Win gives you exactly that. And with our Golden Guarantee, if the reports don’t give you clarity, you get 100% of your money back, no questions asked.
