Mali's Defense Minister Killed in Coordinated Rebel and Jihadist Offensive

Mali’s Defense Minister Gen. Sadio Camara was killed Sunday when a suicide vehicle bomb struck his residence in Kati, near Bamako, amid a coordinated nationwide offensive by jihadist and separatist forces against Mali's junta and its Russian allies.

Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin and the Tuareg-led Azawad Liberation Front claimed attacks carried out across northern and central Mali, including Gao, Kidal, Mopti and Sevare, with insurgents reportedly seizing Kidal and forcing Russian Africa Corps withdrawals. (Read More)

Ukraine Strikes Three Russian Warships and MiG-31 in Large-Scale Crimea Operation

Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) said Sunday its special operations units carried out a large-scale overnight drone strike in occupied Crimea, damaging three naval vessels as well as air defense and intelligence facilities.

The SBU said the strikes hit the Ropucha-class landing ships Yamal and Filchenkov, along with the reconnaissance vessel Ivan Khurs. A MiG-31 fighter jet stationed at Belbek airfield was also struck. (Read More)

US President Donald Trump and his officials were the “likely” targets of a gunman who tried to storm the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, acting US Attorney General Todd Blanche said. The suspect, identified as Cole Tomas Allen, 31, was arrested after opening fire near a security checkpoint at a Washington DC hotel on Saturday. (Read More)

A delivery rider’s vehicle was hijacked and fitted with an improvised explosive device before being forced to a police station in Dunmurry, Ireland where it exploded. No one was killed or injured. Police say the attack may have been carried out by the dissident republican group known as the New IRA. (Read More)

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman apologized for failing to report a ChatGPT user who later killed eight people in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia. The account was flagged and banned in June 2025 for violent content, but OpenAI said it did not meet the threshold for a law enforcement referral. (Read More)

Israel deployed an Iron Dome air defence system with IDF operators to the UAE early in the war with Iran, marking its first operational use outside Israel and the U.S., Axios reported. The system intercepted dozens of Iranian missiles, according to an Israeli official cited by the news outlet. (Read More)

The U.S. Navy commissioned USS Idaho, the 26th Virginia-class submarine, on Saturday, making the 7,800-ton Block IV boat the newest addition to the fleet at Naval Submarine Base New London. (Read More)

Cold War footage has surfaced appearing to show a Soviet Su-7 dropping a nuclear bomb at the Semipalatinsk test site in Kazakhstan in August 1962. The pilot reportedly carried out an over-the-shoulder toss delivery of a 244N warhead, with the bomb detonating at an altitude of around 800 feet after release from the aircraft. (Read More)

➤ Ukraine has been using drones to evacuate stranded pets from frontline positions, most recently airlifting a cat named Barsik and a dog named Zagybluk about six miles in breathable pouches to safer areas. Animal rights group UAnimals said it has evacuated over 10,000 animals, including lions, camels, horses and other species, since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Italian photographer Pierpaolo Mittica has documented the Chernobyl exclusion zone 40 years after the 1986 disaster, capturing a landscape that continues to evolve. About 600 workers arrive daily at the site for cleanup efforts expected to continue into the 2060s.
