Ukraine Launches Record Drone Attack on Moscow During Russian Elections

Ukraine launched more than 1,000 drones at targets across Russia overnight, including nearly 500 aimed at Moscow. The strikes hit an oil refinery and a residential building and killed two people.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine used several long-range missiles in the attack, including the new Flamingo and Pelican missiles. The attack came on the final day of Russia’s parliamentary elections, which also included voting in Russian-occupied parts of Ukraine. (Read More)​

Houthi Attack Reaches Riyadh for the First Time Since July

Explosions and thick black smoke were reported near Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport Saturday after Yemen’s Houthis claimed they launched missiles and drones at “sensitive” sites in the Saudi capital.

Saudi authorities said air defenses intercepted ballistic missiles targeting Riyadh and reported no casualties or damage. The reported strikes marked the first Houthi attack on Riyadh since fighting between Saudi Arabia and the Iran-backed group escalated in July. (Read More)​

Florida Fishing Crew Hauls Military Drone Out of Gulf

A Florida fishing charter crew recovered a large delta-wing military-style drone from the Gulf of Mexico near Eglin Air Force Base Saturday.

The aircraft has not been identified, but analysts said it may be a U.S.-built LUCAS or MQM-172 Arrowhead designed to mimic the Iranian Shahed-136. Hot Spot Fishing Charters said authorities later took custody of the drone. (Read More)​

➤ A suicide bombing at a mosque inside a police headquarters in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province killed at least 31 people, including 16 police officers. A Taliban-linked faction known by the acronym TTP claimed responsibility for the attack, which occurred during Friday prayers. (Read More)​

➤ A Tennessee grandmother spent six months in jail after facial-recognition software wrongly flagged her as a suspect in a bank-fraud case, even though she was 1,200 miles away. Angela Lipps is now seeking $10 million in damages from the City of Fargo and a former detective over her wrongful arrest. (Read More)​

➤ A tanker carrying U.S. gas to Europe turned back after its crew said hackers had seized its safety systems. The incident remains under investigation, and the attacker has not been identified. The ship is among about 20 vessels now under U.S. cyber monitoring after suspected cyberattacks. (Read More)​

➤ Security researchers used Anthropic’s Claude AI to gain access to an OpenAI employee’s ChatGPT account and reach information linked to the company’s source code. The researchers reported the vulnerability to OpenAI, which fixed the issue and paid them a $6,500 bounty. (Read More)​

➤ A Ukrainian STING S interceptor drone destroyed a Russian jet-powered Geran-5 small cruise missile, according to footage released by its manufacturer, Wild Hornets. The company said the drone is faster than the Geran-5 and can carry a larger explosive payload than other Geran variants. (Read More)​

➤ The U.S. Navy is planning to convert the future USS Baltimore into a specialized seabed warfare submarine to succeed the USS Jimmy Carter. The Virginia-class submarine will support deep-sea operations and protect critical undersea infrastructure. (Read More)​

➤ Ukraine’s military intelligence is testing locally made, remotely controlled buggies to assess their performance under battlefield conditions. Brave1 said manufacturers will refine the vehicles based on trial feedback before working with the Defense Ministry to expand their deployment. (Read More)​

➤ Archaeologists in Turkey uncovered a nearly 2,000-year-old Roman mosaic featuring a cat named Emerald and a dog named Ocean. The animals were the only named figures among 15 mosaic scenes, suggesting they may have been important to the villa’s residents and could have been household pets.

On this day in history: On September 21st, 1780, General Benedict Arnold met secretly with British Major John André to hand over the plans to West Point. The plot unraveled days later when André was caught, making Arnold the young nation's most infamous traitor and a founding case for American counterintelligence.
