Ukrainian Forces Eliminate Russian Sabotage Unit in Donetsk Oblast

Ukrainian forces have eliminated a Russian sabotage and reconnaissance unit that infiltrated central Pokrovsk, Donetsk Oblast. According to Ukraine’s 7th Rapid Reaction Corps, the group reached the area near the city’s railway station on Monday and opened fire on civilians, killing several before being tracked down.

The corps said a joint strike and search team located and neutralized the assailants hiding inside one of the railway station buildings.

The attackers are believed to have been members of a Russian special reconnaissance detachment linked to the Rubicon sabotage group. The corps said Ukrainian troops have killed 14 Russian soldiers who managed to enter Pokrovsk over the past two days. (Read More)

Iraq to Retain Small U.S. Advisory Force Amid ISIS Threat

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani said a small group of U.S. military advisers will remain in Iraq to coordinate with the global coalition combating the Islamic State (ISIS) group.

He said about 250 to 350 advisers and support personnel will stay at the Ain al-Asad base in western Iraq and the al-Harir base in the north. Al-Sudani said the U.S. forces will “support counter-ISIS surveillance and coordination with the al-Tanf base” in Syria.

The prime minister noted the original plan called for a full U.S. pullout by September, but “developments in Syria” required maintaining a limited presence. According to Al-Sudani, other U.S. sites in Iraq are gradually reducing operations and personnel. (Read More)

Ukraine Targets Key Russian Energy Hubs

Ukrainian drones struck the Orenburg gas processing plant in southern Russia, igniting a major fire and halting the facility’s intake of Kazakh gas, officials said. Operated by Gazprom, the plant processes up to 45 billion cubic meters of gas annually and is among the largest of its kind in the world.

The Kazakh Energy Ministry confirmed that operations were suspended following “an emergency situation” after the attack. Ukraine’s General Staff said one of the plant’s processing units was damaged.

In a separate strike, Ukrainian drones hit Rosneft’s Novokuibyshevsk oil refinery in the Samara region, the second attack on the site in a month. In recent months, Kyiv has intensified strikes on Russian energy facilities it says both fund and fuel Moscow’s war effort. (Read More)
