U.S. Warship and Marines Conduct Training in Trinidad Miles from Venezuela

A U.S. Navy destroyer, the USS Gravely (DDG-107), arrived in Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday with Marines from the 22nd Expeditionary Unit ahead of joint training with local forces. The warship docked in the capital, Port of Spain, less than seven miles from Venezuelan waters.

Trinidad’s government described the drills, running from October 26 to 30, as routine security cooperation. The Gravely, equipped with the Aegis combat system and vertical-launch missiles, offers advanced air defense and long-range strike capabilities.

The deployment comes amid escalating U.S.-Venezuela tensions and follows recent U.S. counter-narcotics operations across the Caribbean. (Read More)

China Advances Construction of Fourth Aircraft Carrier

New satellite images analyzed by open-source intelligence researchers revealed that China has begun constructing its fourth aircraft carrier, reportedly designated Type 004, at the Dalian shipyards. Early signs suggest a design potentially larger than the Type 003 Fujian, which is nearing commissioning.

Analysts estimate the vessel’s size between 100,000 and 120,000 tons, comparable to the U.S. Navy’s Gerald R. Ford–class carriers. It is rumored to feature nuclear propulsion and electromagnetic catapults.

Former U.S. naval officers told CNN that the Fujian’s flight operations may achieve only 60% efficiency compared to older Nimitz-class carriers, underscoring operational limitations. Beijing has not confirmed any technical details but maintains that its carrier development supports national security objectives. (Read More)

RSF Claims Seizure of Sudan’s Last Darfur Stronghold

Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) said they have captured the army’s main base in El-Fasher, effectively taking control of the last remaining Darfur state capital after months of fighting. A former government minister told the Financial Times that limited resistance remains, but full RSF control appears imminent.

Footage released by the RSF showed fighters celebrating inside the captured base. The Sudanese army has yet to comment on the RSF’s claim. Meanwhile, residents reported ongoing clashes and mass displacement across the city.

Aid agencies warn that more than 260,000 civilians, half of them children, are trapped without food or medical care. The United Nations fears famine and further massacres as the RSF tightens its grip on western Sudan. (Read More)
